Delete your data

Learning Breaks never sends us anything that says who a child is: no names, and nothing a child types or says. A class holds only made-up seat names, such as "Blue Otter". What our server holds is below, with how to delete each part.

You can also write to us and we will do it for you:

Your grown-up account

If you signed in on the Grown-ups screens, open Grown-ups in the app, then Your data, and choose Delete my grown-up account. The app asks you to confirm, may ask you to sign in again, and then deletes:

  • your sign-in account;
  • every class only you own, with its word lists, its seats and their made-up names, its join and claim codes, and the links to the phones that joined it;
  • your access to classes someone else also owns (those classes stay for them).

A class made with a classroom key and no account cannot be deleted from the app, because the app does not keep the key. Whoever holds the key can email support@learningbreaks.com and we will delete the class. If you are comfortable with a web request, you can also do it yourself: send DELETE https://learningbreaks.com/api/v1/owner with the header Authorization: Bearer followed by the key. That deletes the key's class and the key stops working.

This phone

In the app, open Grown-ups, then Your data, and choose Forget this phone on our server. That deletes the random id this phone uses with us, its record of breaks this month, and any reports about games sent from it. Removing the app from the phone deletes everything stored on the phone itself.

Game developers

Sign in to the developer portal and choose Delete my account on your dashboard. If you are the last owner of a team with a live game, make someone else an owner, or ask us to remove the game, first.

What we keep, and why

We pay game developers from monthly break statements, and a closed statement has to add up the same way every time it is checked. So after you delete, we keep the break records from months that are already closed: which game gave a break, on which day, and whether it was finished. Each month's records are moved to a new random id of their own, with nothing that ties them to your phone or to each other, and they hold nothing about a child.

For a developer, we keep those statements and the apps they belong to (their package name and title) without your name, email or domain; their store listings, signing certificates and your messages to us are deleted. Decisions we made about a game stay on record, without the report that led to them.
